Abstract

Residential mobility is a fundamental issue to be considered in urban planning. The objective of this study is to investigate the relative importance of socio-economic and demographic characteristics of both households and environmental aspects on the length of time persons live in the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Area (Brazil). Two hierarchical levels of data will be used in the analyses: the first is related to characteristics inherent to the households, such as income, composition, age and gender of the householder, and tenure. The second is related to aspects of the urban area where the dwelling is located, such as socio-economic status of the neighborhood, accessibility to services and trade, and others. To solve this problem, a Logistic Multilevel Regression model is developed.
