Abstract

This article has two main goals. The first is to show the most important advances and limitations of the Demographic Census of 2000 for persons working with intra-urban analysis, especially those concerned with access to information at the local and intra-municipal levels, and to promote a method of data analysis that minimizes these limitations. For this purpose, a case study was carried out on the Municipality of Santos, located on the Atlantic coast of the State of São Paulo, using a data interpolation procedure known as kriging. The second goal is to analyze the intra-urban dynamic of Santos in the 1990s, as a possible application of the procedures discussed.
