Abstract

The study attempts to show, with information taken from experiences in Bahia, how the historic process of proletarization changes in character and level of radicalism at certain moments in the process of the emergence and development of capitalism, thus producing significant changes in migratory patterns. Special focus is given on how the migratory flux from the rural area, in Bahia, has been more intense in these last 50 years, altering subsequent spacial displacements of population. At the same time, the form of collective organization of production of the salaried classes in the rural and town areas have been redefined, thus turning migrations into expressive mediation mechanisms in the constitution of an eminently urban society.
