Abstract

Tubal ligation and feminine lmagination. Feminine sterilization is the most widely used contraceptive method in Brazil. This article seeks to understand the representantions built in the feminine mind about tubal ligation. Women were individually interviewed in Belém. Recurrent images are reported and appear sometimes connected to submission, other rimes to the desire to submit to the surgery. Contradictory and often surprising, these representations reveal new elements in the phenomenon posed by feminine sterilization.
