Abstract

The use of RRT In the characterization of the induced abortion. The objective of this paper is evaluate the level and the tendency of the induced abortion, as well as evaluate the ratio women who induced abortions refuse to admit their experience when questioned directly, as a function to some demographic variables. Two population samples were selected through a random draw of the totality women between 15 and 49 years old dwellers in the area of Vila Madalena, São Paulo. In one sample was investigated the number of induced abortion in 1987 through a conventional direct approach. In the other sample the same information was estimated using the RRT. The research results evidence file utility of the RRT in establishing abortion levels. Contrasting the results of the two methodologies 80% the voluntary omissions of information were detected, that is, around 80 in every 100 women who induced abortions refuse to admit it when questioned directly. This one suggests a totality of 1,5 millions the illegals abortions in Brazil for that year. To sum up, the analysis of variations furnishes evidence showing that single women, young women, women who have not had live births, women who have a number of children below the expected ideal, and women who do not have any restrictions as to abortion constitute the categories most inclined to resort to induced abortion. Each of this categories are composed substantially of women who doesn't admit their induced abortion.
