Abstract
Kinship and family among slaves in the 19th century: a case study. The article tries to establish some of the patterns related to the slave families on a coffee plantation in Bananal (SP) in the second half of the 19th century. The research is based on the joining of manuscript sources as wills, baptism and marriage ecclesiastical certificates and private books from the notorious plantation owner Manoel de Aguiar Vallim. From a theoretical point of view kinship is considered to be one of the main strategies of pacification, socialization and slaves organization. From these functions come its conservative social role, essential to the reproduction of the inclusive slavery system.Downloads
