Abstract
Demographic dynamics according to income groups. The aim of the paper is to study the fertility and mortality decline that took place in Brazil during 1960 and 1980 according to income groups. The paper also measures the effect on population growth rate and age structure of these groups of these diferentiated fertility and mortality trends. Fertility and mortality declined dramatically over the two decades, but this was diferentiated according to the income groups. The mortality differences were more marked than the fertility ones. The later ones reduced during this period. These trends are bringing about changes in the demand by social policies which are varies according to income groups. For instance, the youngest population is growing less than the total population except the poorest group. On the other hand, the population aged 15-64 will be made of by people from richer families. It is clear that the fertility decline is reaching all population groups, which will bring about a more marked population growth reduction.Downloads
