Abstract
The identification of a significant number of persons in the 1991 census returns with more than five years of residence in a State that declared another State as place of residence in September 1st, 1986, led the authors to investigate the internal consistency of internal migration data of the 1991 Brazilian Census. Some tests were made to infer which of the two questions (duration of residence and place of residence in a fixed date) was probably answered in a wrongly manner. The article shows that the information on place of residence in September 1st, 1986 is probably more acurate than the one on duration of residence.Downloads
