Abstract
The article examines changes on characteristics of Brazilian household arrangements between 1978 and 1998 from a demographic perspective. It stresses two main shifts regarding the composition of the nucleus and the periphery of arrangements, and the alteration on its group size. The role of fertility and standards of conjugality are also examined in respect to these changes. Therefore, household arrangements become rather heterogeneous, although the changing age structure of population is leading to reductions on their sizes.Downloads
