There is evidence that return migrations to place of birth have played an increasingly important role in Brazilian migration. Studies that measure and characterize this type of movement can contribute to a broader understanding of the phenomenon. The present article measures the direct and indirect effects of return migrations to Minas Gerais and maps last-step migratory movements to the state during the decades of 1970-1980, 1981-1991 and 1990-2000. The data was taken from the Demographic Censuses of 1980, 1991 and 2000, and the 2000 Brazilian Municipal Boundary File.Downloads
